Committees

CEHA has members who are committed to furthering the field of environmental health through their involvement on the following Committees. You can get involved by contacting your local Chapter President, or CEHA's Support Services to get more information.

 

Annual Educational Symposium (AES)

The AES Planning Committee has the responsibility to plan and coordinate CEHA's Annual Educational Symposia (AES) within the guidelines outlined in the "Guide for Staging an CEHA AES." The AES is usually held in April or May of each year. Management of the AES is a function of the AES Planning Committee under the policy and direction of the CEHA Board of Directors.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee annually reviews all nomination packages submitted and make recommendations to the Board regarding CEHA awards and scholarships. CEHA offers 12 awards and scholarships for professionals and students. More detailed information is available on our Awards page.

Bylaws and Procedures Committee

The Bylaws and Procedures Committee makes recommendations to the CEHA Board regarding any necessary updates or revisions to CEHA's Bylaws and Procedures. The committee annually reviews the Bylaws and Policies and Procedures Manual.

Educational Institutions Committee

An Educational Institutions membership is offered to representatives of accredited educational institutions throughout the State of California which have an environmental and/or occupational health program, industrial hygiene program, public health program, or related curriculum program. This committee is charged with developing and maintaining liaison with accredited institutions on behalf of CEHA.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee prepares an annual budget for CEHA, determines fundraising activities for CEHA, audits the CEHA Treasurer's books each fiscal year, and prepares an annual financial report for the membership and for publication in the Journal.

Historical Committee

The Historical Committee is responsible for the collection and maintenance of historical material as it relates to CEHA and the Environmental Health profession. CEHA's Historian(s) are responsible for the preservation and storage of all historical archives which are the property of CEHA.

International Relations Committee

The International Committee fosters international relations in the field environmental health, maintain liaison with the International Federation of Environmental Health (IFEH), develops "twinning" relationships with other related professional environmental health associations, and communicates to the CEHA membership any information regarding international opportunities in environmental health. Other responsibilities include contributing to the CEHA Journal of Environmental Health and seeking environmental health news, information, and opportunities on an international level.

Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee reviews pending and proposed legislation and regulations which may affect the professional status, work, or welfare of the Environmental Health Specialist and makes recommendations to the CEHA Board of Directors based on their review. Based on the committee recommendations, the CEHA President and Board of Directors may support or oppose pending legislation via letters to legislators.

Nominations and Elections Committee

The Nominations Committee secures candidates for CEHA office, conducts annual elections in accordance with the Bylaws, conduct special elections, and is chaired by CEHA's Immediate Past President.

Past Presidents Council

The Past President's Council (PPC) consists of all Past Presidents of CEHA and is chaired by CEHA's Immediate Past President. The PPC recommends changes in CEHA's organization which will enable it to function more effectively and determines the need for efforts which will further the profession of the Environmental Health Specialist and environmental protection.

Public Relations Committee

The Public Relations Committee is charged with promoting the environmental health profession by increasing awareness of the leadership role that CEHA and Registered Environmental Health Specialists have in California's environmental health issues. Tasks include providing education, promoting the expertise of the environmental health professionals, disseminating information, developing and maintaining active liaison with related professional organizations and industry, and assisting the Legislative Committee.

Publications Committee

The Publications Committee directs and facilitates CEHA publications, including the California Journal of Environmental Health and the CEHA Bulletin. Some of the responsibilities include soliciting articles, photographs, and graphics for publication, choosing the content of the publications, soliciting advertising for CEHA publications, and overseeing all aspects of CEHA publications.

Sections

The CEHA Sections were formed to provide a forum for members who specialize in, or have a particular interest in, an aspect of environmental health to promote the development of their area of influence. CEHA currently has thirteen Sections, including Food, Swimming Pools, Housing/Noise, Epidemiology, Liquid Waste, Water, Solid Waste, Food Vehicles, Disaster Preparedness, International, Hazardous Materials, and Vector Control. The chairs of each section provide review pending legislation and make recommendations to the Board of Directors, in conjunction with the Legislative Committee.

Strategic Plan Committee

The Strategic Plan Committee annually reviews the CEHA Strategic Plan Work Plan and is chaired by the CEHA President-Elect.

Web Site Committee

The Web Site Committee is responsible for coordinating the content and design of the CEHA web site. The goal of the committee is to provide CEHA members and the interested public with meaningful information while providing a positive internet presence for CEHA to draw new members.
